We left the RV "ghetto" at Fishing Bridge RV Park in Yellowstone National Park and returned to the Headwaters RV Park at Flagg Ranch in the Grand Tetons National Park. There is a problem with summer travel ... people traveling during the summer ... lots of them. We rather naively assumed that we could make reservations "on the fly" (very difficult to do when we have no Internet or cell phone service) and many of the locations that we'd like to be have been reserved for months (year) in advance, particularly in or near a national or state park, on or near a national holiday (in our case, Independence Day). We got "the last available" reserved site at the Headwaters RV Park and can remain in our site until after the Independence Day holiday ... so, we took the site to save ourselves the frustration of trying to find a new campsite anywhere near the holiday. It is a pleasant, treed, campsite with spacing between the campsites (and all pull-through sites making it easier to just pull in) at the headwaters of the Snake River and close proximity to hiking trails in the Grand Tetons and just two miles south of Yellowstone (if we should decide to brave the crowds and return there).
Our task today was to restock our provisions ... easily accomplished with a drive to Jackson Hole. A "hole" was a term used by the early explorers/trappers to describe a valley surrounded by mountains where they would gather to trade furs for goods or food or to just socialize. This particular area was named after a trapper, Jackson, and became Jackson's Hole ... now Jackson Hole. We found a Starbucks that carried capsules for our Verismo coffee machine, a grocery store, and a hardware store (still looking for fuses). More importantly, we found a delightful cafe, in a historic building, with an outdoor patio and marvelous food ... Cafe Genevieve ... and had a lovely walk around the town square.
Alas, no photographs ... the photographer left her camera in the car, but suffice it to say that it was a lovely western town ... one to which we'd like to return, perhaps to spend more time. (And, the photographer will resume her duties on the following day ...)
Shopping was tiring, as was all the driving ... still rather frustrated at being so disconnected from the digital world ... hard to research our options ... but, we've become rather fond of a particular turnout along the drive, Potholes Turnout, where we can get both a Verizon and ATT signal (however weak) ... so, these posts are courtesy of the Potholes Turnout in the Grand Tetons National Park (where we will be staying until July 5).
