We decided that we needed a change of pace ... we have a bike rack on the back of Bambi and brought our bikes. To get to the bike path, we needed to load the bikes into Fritz and drive to the Jenny Lake Visitor's Center area. So, we unloaded everything out of Fritz and placed our belongings into Bambi and loaded our bikes into the back of Fritz and drove down to the beginning of the bike path. We needed prove to ourselves that we could load both bikes into the back of Fritz because we're contemplating a long drive to South Dakota to try a famous bike trail.
No, we are not the ambitious cyclists whom we see along Teton Road handling the steep mountainous inclines and declines loaded down with their camping equipment ... we are recreational cyclists who enjoy bike trails with limited or no vehicular traffic and moderate distances ... perhaps at a different age we might have entertained the concept of bicycle camping ... now we content ourselves to give them a wide berth when passing along the road and reminded ourselves that the Tour de France is about to start and it is more fun watching the professionals handle the mountain passes (than to think about doing it ourselves).
Note to selves: Next trip - Remember to bring the bike rack assembly for Fritz.
The bike path started (ended) at the Jenny Lake Visitor's Center and headed south to Moose, the southern entrance to Grand Teton National Park, and then alongside the highway into Jackson Hole. We got as far as the Jackson Hole Airport before turning back ... but not before we watched a multitude of private jets winging their way into the airport. It must be the rich and famous pouring into Jackson Hole for the Independence Day holiday ... jet after jet landed at the small, valley airport.
We also got to see a more slow motion view of the southern Teton Range and stopped to get a few pictures of Grand Teton peak and its Teton glacier ... the shrinkage of the glacier has been astonishing over the decades ... I wanted to get a close up view of the glacier as it may not be there in a decade to come.
A stop at Jackson Lake Lodge yielded an amazing discovery ... a fast router connection in a beautiful, large, open, lodge lobby with massive windows facing the Teton Range across Willow Flats with a clear view of the Snake River in the foreground feeding Jackson Lake and ice cream available at a take-out counter in the lobby. We caught up on the news and email, fed our faces with ice cream and enjoyed the ambience of the historic lodge and stunning mountain views. Life is good ... Bambi concurs.
